Services
Tuning
It generally takes about an hour to carefully fine-tune a regularly-maintained piano. If you seek strong tuning stability for your piano in the long term, appointments are recommended 1 or 2 times per year.
Repair
If something's wrong, we can fix it. The most common repairs include broken strings, sticking keys, bobbling/double-striking hammers, disconnected pedals, chipped keytops, clicking keys, stripped screw holes, and more.
Humidity Control System Installation
Humidity changes a lot here in Minnesota. In the winter, we use heat indoors, drying out the air. In the summer, it is much more humid indoors. The changes in humidity we experience first destabilize the tuning of a piano. Extreme high and lows of humidity that we have also damage piano parts in the long-term and decrease the lifespan of the piano. There is a humidity control system called the Piano Life Saver system available to stabilize the humidity for your piano. In a vertical piano, it can protect the soundboard, pinblock, and action of the piano with a stable humidity level. In a grand piano, it can protect the soundboard. If you are interested, I am happy to discuss this with you to help determine whether this system would be ideal for your piano.
Inspection and Report
For piano buyers, especially when considering purchasing a piano from someone that you don't know. People frequently find pianos at a low price and aren't aware of what it will cost to get it sounding like a good piano again. For this reason, they can end up with a "money pit piano"--one that costs hundreds to move, needs extra work getting back in tune, and requires a number of costly repairs just to start sounding like a good piano again. This is a low-cost way to protect yourself from buying a dud, and will make you aware of any unique problems that the piano may have.
Basic Cleaning
Vacuuming and dusting of your piano inside and out.
Extensive Cleaning
An extensive piano cleaning includes beneath the keys. In a grand piano, this also includes the soundboard beneath the piano strings.
*Service call to a piano that cannot be tuned • $95
Sometimes this is called a "dead on arrival" piano, for lack of a better term. This is the price for a service call in which the piano is deemed untunable, plus any mileage fee for out-of-town service. This is certainly not the case for most pianos, but is sometimes seen in very old pianos that have developed structural problems, such as cracking along the pinblock, which must hold the tuning pins tightly for the piano to hold its tune.
